Part 1 of this event will be held Friday, March 30, 2007 on the University of Tennessee campus and Part 2 will be held at The Cove on Saturday, March 31, 2007. Results from Part 1 will be used to break ties and qualify teams for Part 2. Notice that each team is responsible for bringing their equipment for participation please see the rules below for equipment regulations.
Question: What if our chapter does not have access to equipment within the regulations stated?
Answer: Please contact Dr. Terry Miller at tmiller3@utk.edu for access to the University of Tennessee's equipment.
Question: What will be the Datum for the GPS competition?
Answer: You can use either WGS84 or NAD83 map datums for the GPS exercise.
Question: In the competition, will the judge previously give us the coordinates of
all the points?
Answer: You will be given both UTM and Lat/Lon coordinates.
Question: In all point we are going to find some information to make some
calculations to find others points? In case that we have to make calculations, do you know the specific topic of geo-caching to find the points?
Answer: The information you will need to find is in English on signs near each set of coordinates 4. You may need to do some simple calculations to points. Bring a hand-held calculator.
Question: In the conventional surveying what will be the specific topics? Will we use the stadia methods to calculate some height?
Answer: For the conventional surveying exercise you need to determine the horizontal and vertical distances between inaccessible points (i.e. points not necessarily on the ground, but on a roof top, etc) 6. You may use stadia methods. How you conduct the survey is part of the exercise. There are various methods you can use.
